About Me
I am Kirsten Haugen, MA, a parent, special education teacher, writer, and educational technology consultant with special interests in assistive technology, early intervention, student writing and publishing, and mental health issues for children and adolescents.
I live in Eugene, Oregon, with my husband and two sons, who attend public schools in the Eugene 4J School District.
Work Experience
I am a freelance consultant for educational and assistive technology. I have done work for Alliance for Technology Access, Child Care information Exchange, Center for Accessible Technology, Don Johnston, Inc., Eugene 4J School District, IntelliTools, Technology, Reading and Learning Diversity Conference, the World Forum on Early Care and Education, and other organizations, school districts and non-profits.
I have worked in special education since the 1980s, presenting popular seminars and workshops at TRLD and other conferences since 1995, the same time I began working in assistive technology at the Center for Accessible Technology, Berkeley, CA.

Publications
I have authored several articles and training pieces on technology and special needs for Child Care Information Exchange, and am a regular contributor to the World Forum on Early Care and Education. I co-authored "We Can Play," a free series of accessible play strategies, in English and Spanish, available from the Alliance for Technology Access. I also have authored titles in the Start-to-Finish Literacy Starters series from Don Johnston, Inc.
